Dear Friend,We’re sure that you get upset about the growing garbage gyres in the ocean, such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Like us, your heart aches when you see images of marine animals snared by debris.
Fortunately, there are ocean champions in Congress who feel the same way, and one of the best, Congressman Sam Farr (D-CA) is pushing hard to pass the Marine Debris Research, Prevention, and Reduction Act. Congressman Farr has worked to raise the visibility of this issue, and on December 15th, the Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on this bill.
Now Congressman Farr needs your help. Please use this link to contact your Representative to ask that they cosponsor this important bill. There are already 29 cosponsors, including ocean champions like Congresswomen Madeleine Bordallo (D-GU), Lois Capps (D-CA), Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) and Chellie Pingree (D-ME), along with Congressmen Rush Holt (D-NJ), and Mike Honda (D-CA).
This bill enjoys bipartisan support, but it needs more cosponsors to build the necessary momentum. Please take a few minutes to customize and send your Representative this message urging them to help get plastic out of the ocean by cosponsoring the Marine Debris Research, Prevention, and Reduction Act.
For the Oceans,
The Ocean Champions Team
P.S. Please include Ocean Champions in your year-end giving so we can keep working to elect great champions like Congressman Farr.
