Tell Congress to oppose H.R. 1335, a harmful bill which threatens healthy sustainable fisheries!
We are writing today to urge you to take action and contact your Member of Congress regarding harmful fisheries policy - H.R. 1335 - Strengthening Fishing Communities and Increasing Flexibility in Fisheries Management Act. Ask your Representative to oppose H.R. 1335.
While the title of the bill may sound good, this legislation undermines healthy and sustainable fisheries. H.R. 1335 alters the Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA) by imposing arbitrary and unnecessary requirements that would harm the environment and the economy. All of the progress achieved to date in rebuilding overfished fisheries would come to an abrupt halt. This harmful bill would introduce uncertainty and delays in rebuilding fisheries, undermine the use of science-based actions to end and prevent overfishing, and weaken the protections provided by other important environmental statutes.
Please take a few moments today to urge your Representative to support balanced legislation for healthy and sustainable fisheries, and oppose any efforts to weaken and harm them.
Thank you! With your support, we will continue working toward healthy and sustainable oceans and economies for years to come.
