Ocean Champions: Political Champions for Ocean Conservation

Dear Friend,

What's Up?

President Obama is considering creating the Atlantic Ocean's first-ever National Marine Monument off the coast of New England, which would help protect these cherished ocean waters and hundreds of specis of ocean wildlife from dangerous pollution, industrial fishing, climate change and other threats.

What You Can Do

We need you to call the President today.  Voice your support for this groundbreaking proposal and urge the President to protect New England's ocean treasures forever:  (202) 456-1111

OR, take action by sending a letter to the President

Why It's Important

The Grand Canyons, Sea Mountains, and Cashes Ledge are spectacular national treasures off New England's coast.

These precious ecosystems provide refuge for hundreds of species of rare and unique marine wildlife including whales, seabirds and long-living cold water corals. These remote areas are also critical to the health of our ocean fish, which are the lifeblood of Atlantic coastal communities.

But now, as the deep ocean has become more accessible, these fragile places are under growing threat of destruction from overfishing and industrial exploitation.

What's the Rush?

Comments are due by September 15.  You still have time to make history and a difference for our oceans.

For the oceans,

David Wilmot, Ph.D.
