It's the URGENT NEED for you and your friends to SHOUT:

NO OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING!

Now is the time for each of us to stand strong behind those fighting this oily battle.  While we're at it, let's get 3 FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME!.

Despite mounting pressure from both Democrats and Republicans, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she would not support a vote on a bill allowing increased offshore drilling, calling it an effort to "mislead the American people as to thinking it's going to reduce the price at the pump."

We say:  'Way to go!' House Speaker Pelosi. Even the Bush Administration agrees that lifting the current moratorium won't change the price of oil for at least a decade, and might not change it at all.  The oil companies already have 68 MILLION ACRES that they could be drilling, including some of the most oil-rich sites in the Gulf of Mexico. So, why would we give the oil companies even more?!  Isn't our payment at the gas pump enough for them?

Some of us are just not willing to give our oceans, too.

Here's what you need to do today to sustain the moratorium on offshore oil drilling:

1. Contact your members of Congress to tell them how important this issue is to you.  Call  202-224-3121 and send a letter today, NO TO DRILLING!
2. Email specific House and Senate leaders to tell them to keep holding a hard line.
   Senator Reid, Senate Majority Leader
   Senator Durbin, Majority Whip
   House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
   Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader
   Rahm Emanuel, Caucus Chair
   Chris Van Hollen, DCCC leader
3. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.

TELL 3 FRIENDS!  The oceans are desperate for help.  As Ocean Champions, we know our work impacts political leadership in the protection of the oceans.  We also know we must expand our support base.  There are simply not enough Ocean Champion Voices.  If we don't help rally our friends and neighbors on this issue, who will?

It's going to be a long, hot summer.  The decision whether to reverse the current moratorium on offshore oil drilling will come sooner than we realize.  Once the decision to expand offshore oil drilling is made, there may be no going back.  As Ocean Champions, we know our voices count.  And, adding more voices increases our power.  Please tell your friends to join us in what is shaping up to be one of our hottest battles.
