Ocean Champions: Political Champions for Ocean Conservation

Dear Friend,

This Friday is the last day to urge the Obama administration to adopt a strong national ocean policy with a framework for effective coastal and marine spatial planning.  This would align the work of twenty federal agencies which currently have jurisdiction over ocean issues and would help the oceans provide food, jobs and recreation into the future.  Fishermen, divers, surfers, sailors, kayakers, boaters, beachgoers and others who depend on the ocean and have a direct and passionate connection to it will all benefit.  To take action, click on this link and tell President Obama why you believe it is important to protect, maintain and restore healthy oceans and to manage ocean resources for the long term (sample message on our home page).

In a related note, we're happy to announce Moir's Environmental Dialogues are back, and the National Ocean Policy will be front and center in the first show, set to air today at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST.  Tune in to internet radio for "Seaweed Rebels Rally for President Obama's National Ocean Policy."  Sherman's Lagoon syndicated cartoonist Jim Toomey, Blue Frontier Campaign President David Helvarg, and Ocean Champions' own Mike Dunmyer will discuss the work of the National Ocean Policy Task Force, the potential outcomes, and what may follow.  It promises to be a lively discussion, and may help inform your comments to President Obama, so don't miss out!

For the oceans,

The Ocean Champions Team

P.S. After sending your message to the White House, please take a moment to ask your friends, family and colleagues to take action as well.  We need an army of voices to stand for the ocean now!
