On March 31st, President Obama announced his comprehensive strategy for energy security. This strategy included new offshore oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and exploration in parts of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. Since that time, we've experienced the disastrous BP Gulf oil spill, and the President's position has started to shift. He spoke of our "addiction to fossil fuels," and stated that the BP oil spill is "the most painful and powerful reminder yet that the time to embrace a clean energy future is now."
These are great sentiments, but they will not happen without strong leadership from Obama himself. In his recent speech, he said he was open to ideas, and he needs to hear yours.
