Ocean Champions: Political Champions for Ocean Conservation

Dear Friend,

Clean coastal water is continually under attack! Fertilizer, pesticides, oil spills and plastic garbage all find their way into our oceans at increasingly rapid rates. You’ve seen the results - dead zones, massive fish kills and turtles and sea birds choked by plastic debris.

Now Congressman Doc Hastings (R-WA), the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, has just introduced three bills to greatly increase offshore drilling in the Gulf while opening up new sites along the California, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic coasts!  (Meanwhile, oil-soaked young dolphins are washing up dead on the shores of the Gulf by the dozen)

That’s why we need your help to raise $50,000 to turn the tide on coastal water pollution by:

  • Fighting expanded offshore oil drilling to prevent another BP disaster.

  • Passing our bill to fight the toxic algae and ocean dead zones that destroy habitat, kill fish and mammals and make people very, very sick.

  • Taking the battle upstream to reduce the flow of chemical contaminants into the rivers that transport them into our oceans.

  • Rebuilding U.S. fisheries to help maintain the balance within critical ocean ecosystems.

As the only ocean group that endorses and supports Members of Congress, our voice is heard, but we need your help to make it even stronger at this critical time. Please become a “Crusader for Clean Coastal Water” by donating generously to Ocean Champions today.

The attacks on clean water have already begun, exemplified by recent attempts to kill the EPA’s ability to regulate water quality under the Clean Water Act. We’re working closely with our champions on the Hill to make sure our side wins, and we need your help!

Help us reach our goal of $50,000 by Memorial Day to convince Congress that restoring clean coastal water is the right thing to do!
