Petition Opposing Guns on College Campuses

In 2012, legislation has been carried over or introduced in several states that would change current law and force guns onto college campuses*.  Some of these states include:  Arizona (SB 1474), Georgia (HB981), Kansas (HB 2353), and Ohio (HB 256), as well as other states, please sign NOW and help keep our nation's colleges and universities safe.

For the most part, we are winning around the country (for example, this year, guns on campus bills were defeated in Indiana, New Hampshire and Virginia), but we need your help.  Sign the petition today and forward to others.   Thank you.

We, the undersigned, oppose any attempts by the government to allow the carrying of firearms by students, faculty or staff. We urge our state elected officials to vote against any bill permitting guns on campus. Let's keep college for learning, not for toting guns.

*America’s colleges and universities are under attack. Following mass shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007 (32 students and faculty killed and 15 wounded) and Northern Illinois University in 2008 (6 students killed and 16 wounded), legislatures in many states are unbelievably pushing to force colleges and universities to let firearms on campus.

In 2011, guns on campus legislation has been defeated in fifteen states: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.  States that now force guns on campus include:  Mississippi, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin.
