Oppose Guns on Louisiana's College Campuses

The gun lobby in Louisiana is trying to amend the state constitution making it easier for people to carry their hidden, loaded handguns into dormitories and classrooms of Louisiana's community colleges, colleges, and universities. Will you stand with us in calling for members of the Administration of Criminal Justice committee to reject Senate Bill 303?

Senate Bill 303 would (among many things) have the potential of denying public schools, hospitals, and other public entities from regulating concealed handguns on their premises. The introduction of loaded, concealed weapons will only serve to help foster a potentially unsafe environment, not enhance safety.

SB 303 has already passed in the State Senate, please email the House Committee TODAY and tell them to vote NO on SB 303. Thank you.

*America’s colleges and universities are under attack. Following mass shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007 (32 students and faculty killed and 15 wounded) and Northern Illinois University in 2008 (6 students killed and 16 wounded), legislatures in many states are unbelievably pushing to force colleges and universities to let firearms on campus.

In 2011, guns on campus legislation was defeated in fifteen states: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. States that now force guns on campus include: Mississippi, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin.
