Bailing Out Wall Street, Selling Out Main Street

Posted by Cindy Sheehan

I am watching the debate on CSPAN over HR 1424 the "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act." As you can imagine there is empty rhetoric on both sides of the issue and there is bi-partisan support and opposition. If anything, it's a little more interesting than usual.
Rep Gary Miller (R-Ca), in a rare lapse of guarded "poli-speak" said that this bill would help the "Small People." Meaning, you and I. Fundamentally, that's what we are to the Congressional-Wall Street Cabal---the "Small People."

But, watching the proceedings, I am underwhelmed how these people are all of a sudden worried about we "Small People."

Congress, under the failed leadership of Nancy Pelosi, has passed laws to undermine our 4th Amendment rights to be safe and secure in our personal correspondence, phone calls and emails. Nancy Pelosi's Congress has given George Bush over 500,000,000,000.00 dollars to age his insane wars in Iraq and now they are going to give his Secretary of the Treasure, Henry Paulson, (Former CEO of Goldman-Sachs), 850,000,000,000. 00. That's a lot of zeros!

Congressperson after Congressperson have risen to say that we must hand over billions of "Small People" tax dollars so "Small People" will not "lose their jobs" or "lose their homes." We "Small People" have been losing our jobs and our homes at record paces only rivaled in the 1930's, and not one Bill was passed to help the "Small People" keep our jobs and homes. Tent cities are arising all over the country and Congress is going to bailout an industry that caused these cities and not only that, but use our money to help keep the CEO's in the style to which they have become accustomed.

Congressperson after Congressperson have also risen to say that their constituents, we "Small People" are overwhelmingly against the bailout of corporate piracy and pillaging, but he/she will vote for the Bill anyway, because he/she knows better what is good for us "Small People." We will eat our spinach and like it, because our REPRESENTATIVES have become mini-dictators in the shadow of the Fuhrers who are exercising fascistic control over every aspect of our lives.

I would like to remind everyone that at the beginning of the year, Congress passed another "emergency" bill that gave we "Small People" a few hundred dollars that did nothing to stimulate the economy. The solution to the crisis may cost billions of dollars, but not to hand to Wall Street. The bill failed on Monday, but Wall Street did not crash.

The solution is to put our economy to work for we "Small People." Federal Jobs programs that pay living wages to repair our crumbling infrastructure and rebuild the Gulf States so "Small People" can return to their homes.

Put a moratorium on foreclosures until the housing bubble can adjust to reasonable levels and restructure loans with fixed interest rates so "Small People" can pay their mortgages and the economy will "Gurgle Up" to the Congressional-Wall Street Cabal. We need to extend food stamp and unemployment benefits to pump money directly into the "Small People" economy.

Taxes need to be raised on the top one percent of wealthy people in this country that own more wealth than the bottom ninety percent combined. Taxes need to be reduced dramatically for the bottom 99%. A .25 transaction fee for the people who gamble on Wall Street must also be levied and put into the "Small People" economy for such programs as education and energy.

Regardless, if HR1424 passes or fails, every Congressperson, Democratic or Republican, who voted to sell out the "Small" Person needs to be retired and not sent back to Congress in January.

Reject fear-based politics. We "Small People" need courageous REPRESENTATIVES that will work on real solutions for us, because, as a matter of fact, we are not the "Small People," we are the sovereigns in this Republic and we need to reassert our sovereignty and show our employees in DC that we mean business.

Help me replace Nancy Pelosi in January, she has been the biggest Bush enabler of them all. She sent a very obsequious letter to George Bush this week promising him that Congress would pass a Bill for him. Not only did she not hold him accountable for the crimes he has committed while in office, she is giving him one last victory (at the expense of we "Small People") before he shamefully rides into the sunset while our Republic is burning and Nancy Pelosi plays her fiddle, obediently. George Bush is going to leave quite a mess, and this Congress has proven that they not only do not know how to clean up his messes, but they have collaborated in the orgy that made the mess.

Update: HR 1424 just passed and Congress applauded the marauding of our Republic. We "Small People" have been given a significant defeat.

Other, better way to deal with "bailout"

nyvisitor — 12:49 AM Oct 05, 2008

Pelosi's determined push to pass the $700 billion "Bailout", costing $850 billion of borrowed money, that will cost trillions of dollars to repay, seems to me to be the final, clinching reason for the voters to refuse to vote for Pelosi on November 4th.

I have heard three+ times that there could be a solution using existing government structures and far less money (not a brown bag holding $700 billion for Sec Paulson):

First: William M. Isaac, former FDIC chairman, in his 9-27-08 Washington Post article "A Better Way to Aid Banks" speaks of government solutions to S&L problems of the 80s and to the recent Washington Mutual problem:

"About 3,000 bank and thrift failures were handled without producing depositor
panics and massive instability in the financial system.

"One alternative is a 'net worth certificate' program along the lines of what Congress enacted in the 1980s for the savings and loan industry. It was a big success and could work in the current climate. The FDIC resolved a $100 billion insolvency in the savings banks for a total cost of less than $2 billion.

Second: An October 1st John Nichols' article, "The No BAILOUTS Act", from The Beat in The Nation, spoke of Representatives Peter DeFazio of Oregon and Marcy Kaptur of Ohio (and Rep. Donna Edwards "among others") working on a plan along the lines indicated in Isaac's article. The plan was called BAILOUTS (Bringing Accountability, Increased Liquidity, Oversight, and Upholding Taxpayer Security); it is on DeFazio's website at http://www.defazio.house.gov/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=441.

And third, (a) a progressive financial company (Credo) sent an email about the DeFazio proposal and (b) Isaac's article was reported on public radio.

I hope you have people who can assess Isaac's/DeFazio's ideas and show that Pelosi should have pursued them rather than bankrupting the US.

This "bailout" legislation will deny the US government the money to operate!

DID THE SENATE FORGET SOMEONE?

DID THE SENATE FORGET SOMEONE?

I UNDERSTAND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENATIVES PASSED A BILL TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS LAST WEEK. THEY REALIZED THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO STILL REMAIN UNEMPLOYED WOULD SOON HAVE THEIR BENIFITS EXPIRE. THE SENATE HOWEVER HAS DECIDED THAT THEY HAVE FINISHED THEIR WORK, AFTER PASSING THE OVER $700 BILLION WALL STREET BAILOUT. SO THEY WENT HOME, OR ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL. THE SENATE MAY NOT EVEN VOTE ON THIS UNTIL NEXT YEAR. BY THAT TIME WE MAY HAVE TO RENAME THIS COUNTRY TENT CITY. IT SEEM THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE. THEY MAY HAVE BAILED OUT WALL STREET BUT THE PEOPLE ARE STILL LOOSING THEIR HOMES. GAS PRICES ARE STILL HIGH AND GROCERIES ARE OFF THE CHARTS. ITS A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS WHEN THE ONLY THING OUR GOVERNMENT IS CONCERNED WITH IS WALLSTREET AND KEEPING THEIR OWN JOBS.

promoting CFC thru news prediction websites

I posted the following news prediction question at hubdub.com earlier tonight: "Will Cindy Sheehan win election to the US Congress defeating Nancy Pelosi?" In just a few hours since posting, some 18 predictions have been made by at least 14 different people. This is an admittedly very small and cheap (i.e., "free") way to spread the word about this campaign, but it's a start. There are several other news prediction websites, but this is the only one where I am a member. Anyone can suggest other sites to me by posting comments on the hubdub page with the question about this campaign: http://www.hubdub.com/m18372/Will_Cindy_Sheehan_win_election_to_the_US_Congress_defeating_Nancy_Pelosi

WTF?????

Don Bennett — 03:04 PM Oct 07, 2008

You spent your son's life insurance to camp outside George Bush'es house!!! FOR WHAT???? You accomplished NOTHING!!!!!! Is that what you will do with our tax dollars!!!!!

Good luck in November

Jim Burke — 05:24 PM Oct 07, 2008

I live in PA, so I can't vote for you. Sorry. I think the bailout vote might give you the kick you need to beat the Beltway Princess.
I recently read an article regarding your idea to form a new party. As a "paleo-conservative" (Goldwater Repub.), I support third party candidates in order to break the criminal stranglehold of the two old corporate parties.
Don't throw away your vote in November, vote independent!

how to fix the economy (and everything else)

ALAN — 09:47 AM Oct 09, 2008

Cindy, Attached is a plan to replace Fed dollars with debt-free US dollars, replace the Income tax with a debit tax, give every legal US resident $1000 per month, and pay off the national debt immedaitely. It is what will get us out of the current debacle and `fix everything` by changing the incentives (for ex., kids with money are harder for the military to recruit than poverty cases). You are the only person who can make this go. This can be the foundation of the new party. I have my name in as the write-in candidate for the protest vote, but will replace it with anyone`s name you like, including yours.. alan_jacquemotte@yahoo.com

PROTEST THE FED`S EXTORTION RACKET
WITH A WRITE-IN ELECTION CAMPAIGN
TO REVOLUTIONIZE RESOURCE DISTRIBUTION AND TAXATION
.
The `HOW TO FIX THE ECONOMY` plan addresses three problems with America`s economic system which are destroying our economic security.
.
Problem 1.
.
America`s National Debt is approaching 10 trillion dollars and the system is less than 100 years old. Nice work. If human bodies worked like America's currency supply, every time a kid grew a little he would need to take out a loan to buy a transfusion of new blood. We can easily replace Federal Reserve Debt-Money with debt-free U.S. money and pocket the difference.
.
Problem 2.
.
The Income Tax law was drafted by the same rich guys who invented the Federal Reserve system. They came up with a way to tax us `cash cows` while simultaneously avoiding paying taxes on their own wealth. A kid right out of college shouldn`t be paying a greater percentage of his accumulated wealth in taxes than Bill Gates. We need a flat, transparent, automatically-collected tax that produces results corresponding closely to `benefits previously received`.
.
Problem 3.
.
Thanks to automation, robotics and computers, the days of plentiful, highly-paid jobs employing vast numbers of manual and mental laborers are gone. Remember the days when there were millions of jobs that paid well enough to buy a house, two cars, an RV and a cottage on the lake...and still save plenty for retirement? If you do, then you`re pretty old. For most of us, those days are gone and they`re not coming back. To address this problem we need to either `kill off a lot of people` or else develop a new resource distribution model suitable for a world where jobs are rapidly going the way of `the buggy whip`.
.
******************************
.
HOW TO FIX THE ECONOMY
.
a plan to stimulate the economy, lower taxes, start paying off the National Debt, alleviate poverty and decrease crime
.
by replacing our OLD economic system with a NEW system based on
- a new and debt-free U.S. currency to replace Federal Reserve Debt-Money,
- a 0.5% tax on electronic transfers to replace the Federal Income Tax and the IRS,
- and $1000 per month government privatization compensation for legal U.S. residents
.
The problem is always THE SYSTEM, never just `the people who screwed up`. Until we fix THE SYSTEM, similar bad things will keep on happening. Fault for the credit scam lies not with the banks and borrowers who lost their shirts and homes, but with our predecessors for allowing this SYSTEM to become and remain law, and with ourselves for not getting rid of it earlier.
.
The primary problem with the OLD SYSTEM is that `our` money (actually the Federal Reserve`s Debt-Money) leaks its purchasing power like a bucket with a hole in the bottom leaks water. The Fed dollar currently buys less than 5% of what it bought in 1913. (To view a video that makes the problems inherent in our use of the Fed`s Debt-Money much clearer, do an online search for `Zeitgeist Fed`.) There is NO BENEFIT AT ALL in having a Central Bank (well, none for us) compared to having the U.S. Treasury print and distribute to ourselves our own debt-free money, and THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between having a central bank (like the Federal Reserve System) or not, is that ``One system costs us 95% of our wealth every hundred years and puts us and our posterity into mind-boggling debt until the end of time``... and the other one doesn`t. So the first thing we need for our NEW SYSTEM is our own, debt-free U.S. Government currency, backed by the value of all of the property within the nation`s borders. Bankers will tell you this will cause `the end of civilization as we know it`. It will certainly end it as THEY knew it.
.
Another problem is that the OLD SYSTEM`s income-based taxation creates wasteful tax avoidance behavior, requires an expensive tax reporting industry and an intrusive collection bureaucracy, and is, arguably, a form of `involuntary servitude`. Under a NEW SYSTEM, we could replace all income-related taxes with a one-half percent, automatically-collected electronic transfer tax (also known as a `debit tax`) which would be avoidable by business transactions that used only cash or barter. This change will not only rid us of the IRS (saving us the billions of dollars that are currently spent on `tax reporting`), it will also end the OLD SYSTEM`s penalization of work and entrepreneurism, as well as freeing up further untold billions currently spent on `tax avoidance`. (Also inhibits market speculation.)
.
The third problem with the OLD SYSTEM is that, because governments privatize all of their claimed property (allocating it however they like), everyone winds up being denied their natural right to free access to all property without being compensated for that loss. That`s not a problem for those with access to capital and property ownership, but for the rest of us, it is totally unfair and creates a slanted playing field upon which wealth tends to gravitate to the rich and well-connected. Free-market or socialist, every government`s allocation method results in `denial to everyone of free access to all land`, for which ALL governments should provide compensation.
.
Consequently, our NEW SYSTEM should pay to every legal adult resident $1000 per month (of the new, non-Fed, non-Debt-Money) which can REPLACE ALL FORMS OF PERSONAL AND CORPORATE WELFARE AND SUBSIDIES, no financial qualification required and no restriction on earning additional income (saving us billons in Social Security and Welfare bureauracracy costs and leaving Congress very little to do). Compensation for minors should be held in a trust fund to avoid incentivizing `baby factories`. Since everyone gets the same amount of compensation, this plan does NOT redistribute wealth, but will be of most help to those with the least accumulated wealth.
.
Besides its immediate and direct assault on poverty, the benefits of this part of our NEW SYSTEM should include a reduction in crimes of all sorts, more jobs at better pay, better childcare, more rural homesteading, better maintained urban areas, no more `homeless veterans`, less intrusive and cheaper government with lower military-related expenses and a safer world in general. We can expect residents of other countries to insist their governments either copy our NEW SYSTEM or else apply for U.S. statehood (as Texas did in 1845) as soon as the see how well this NEW SYSTEM works.
.
HEALTH CARE...the AMA and FDA work to constrain competition in order to maximize the medical and pharmaceutical industries` ability to extort unconscionable prices for services and substances that should be affordable out-of-pocket. We need to train up thousands more doctors and other healthcare professionals and to decriminalize and unbridle access for adults to WHATEVER drugs adults feel they need and let the market work to make prices of normal medical help and pharmacology affordable.
.
TO KICK OUR CRUDE (OIL) HABIT, Congress could add on a 10% surcharge at the gas pump, bump it up another 10% every 6 months, and rebate the surcharge revenue in monthly equi-dollar amounts to every registered car OWNER, regardless of how much they drive. The surcharge will incentivize cheaper alternatives which will rapidly come to market, no government subsidies or mandates required.
.
HELP ME SEND THIS MESSAGE to candidates running for Congress in 2010 and 2012. ``In order to get elected, you will need to pledge to help us THROW OFF the predatory Federal Reserve System and devise a NEW SYSTEM, one that ``provides new Guards for our future Security``. We can send a very clear message to those candidates with a MASS WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN for an unknown candidate running for no other purpose than to send that message. (That`s where I come in.) With the major parties fielding candidates who seem to be decent people but who are apparently unaware of the damage the present system is causing to us NORMAL folk, and with the 3rd parties addressing only symptoms rather than the BAD SYSTEM at cause, this election is the ideal time to vote for REAL CHANGE, not just new faces. I will register as a write-in candidate in every state that allows write-in votes from which I get emails expressing support. Pass this message along to several people every day (or, even better, to everyone you know today, and to everyone you meet from now on). IF EACH OF US EVERY DAY CONVINCE EVEN ONE OTHER PERSON TO JOIN US, OVER ONE BILLION PEOPLE CAN BE `ON BOARD` IN 30 DAYS. Get out (and online) and DO IT! For questions or more info, email alan_jacquemotte@yahoo.com.
.
Tell Congress we need a TOTALLY NEW DEAL!
.

Replace the Federal Reserve System
with U.S. Government Debt-Free Money
