Fremont Unified School District Proclaims November as Sikh Awareness Month
(Fremont, California) November 14, 2011: November has been designated as Sikh Awareness Month by Superintendent James Morris of Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) as per Resolution No. 026-111. Fremont boasts one of the largest Sikh populations in the country. Bringing awareness and teaching about Sikhism in the classroom is so crucial in our efforts to eliminate ignorance and bullying of Sikh students. The Sikh Coalition would like to thank the SEVA team for approaching the Fremont Unified School District with this issue.
The Sikh Coalition and the SEVA team are currently working with other Sikh-populated school districts to ensure that this resolution passes in more districts. In addition, we are contacting all principals in FUSD to offer support and assistance when presenting information about Sikhism to their students.
What can YOU do to celebrate this month in Fremont?
