Sikhs Enthusiastically Participate in White House Bullying Prevention Summit

(New York, New York) November 18, 2011 - The Sikh Coalition and the Sikh community enthusiastically participated in a White House Bullying Prevention Summit organized by the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders last month in New York City.

Two buses of Sikhs from New York and New Jersey --- paid for by the White House and organized by the Sikh Coalition --- joined over 400 youth, parents, and government officials at the summit. Representatives from the Department of Education and Department of Justice explained to parents how they can file a complaint of school bullying with the federal government.  Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services shared the StopBullying.gov website and its resources on identifying and tackling the issue. Leaders at Facebook and MTV brought their efforts to eliminate cyber-bullying to the attention of parents.
