Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
This weekend, many of us will spend time sitting around the dinner table with our loved ones. We will reflect on what makes us thankful.
While 2011 was marked by some hate-filled acts against Sikhs and Sikhi, there was also great progress in transforming the national landscape:
In New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed the Workplace Religious Freedom Act, a law initiated and championed for six years by the Sikh Coalition. The new law protects the rights of more than just Sikhs; it strongly protects the right to freely express one’s faith for each and every one of the millions of employees – public or private – in New York City.
Sikh children have assumed significant leadership roles in the growing national discourse on bullying prevention. Youth leader Gurwinder Singh attended the White House Conference on Bullying Prevention, where he heard President Obama speak this past spring, and dozens of Sikh youth and parents participated in a White House anti-bullying conference in New York City last month. The Sikh voice is helping to shape national policy solutions for challenges affecting all American youth.
We are thankful that your support has resulted in progress for the community.
What are you thankful for this year? If you are thankful for our work, then we respectfully request that you support it with your Dasvandh!
Today, the Sikh Coalition needs you to contribute your Dasvandh. Help us ensure the next generation is protected and supported.
