The Anti-Defamation League, one of the nation's most influential Jewish advocacy organizations, spent 56 million dollars in 2009. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the oldest historically African-American civil rights organization in the United States, spent more than 13 million dollars.
By contrast, the Sikh Coalition's total annual budget is less than one million dollars.
According to statistics published by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life, the Jewish American community spends $18 per community member to protect Jewish rights. By contrast, the Sikh American community is spending less than two (2) dollars per Sikh to defend Guru Sahib's way of life.
Let's face it - our friends in the Jewish and African American communities defend themselves with tanks, while Sikhs are (still) defending themselves with slingshots.
Thanks to your generous support, we have successfully challenged discrimination by government agencies, changed laws to protect religious freedom for all Americans, incorporated accurate information about Sikhism into public school curricula, and given a platform to Sikh youth at the highest levels of American government.
We can overcome any challenge for generations to come as long as we make serious investments in our institutions.
Please take a moment and invest in the Sikh Coalition today.
