April 10, 2012 (Washington, DC) - The April 15, 2012 deadline for applications to the second Sikh Advocate Academy is approaching fast. To learn more and apply, please visit our website: www.sikhadvocates.org.

The Sikh Advocate Academy is an intensive, week-long workshop from June 4-8, 2012 in Washington DC that will train approximately 12 individuals on the same advocacy techniques used by the Sikh Coalition to achieve justice. The Academy will be led by experienced social justice advocates and features guest speakers from government agencies, media outlets, and civil rights organizations. Successful applicants will have all expenses paid for their training, including meals, travel, and hotel accommodations, as well as an opportunity to visit Congressional offices on Capitol Hill.  In return for the training, Sikh Coalition Advocates must agree to initiate advocacy efforts in their local communities.
Success of Last Year’s Class
After receiving training, support, and inspiration at the Academy, the participants in our inaugural class were quoted in or wrote in the following publications: CNN.com, Democracy Now, Houston Press, New York One and KQED Radio. In addition members of our inaugural class conducted or inspired surveys of Sikh children on school bullying concerns in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, and Virginia.  Our inaugural class also met with several Congressional offices.
No one can better describe last year’s Advocates class than the Advocates themselves. Click below to watch them speak about their experience with the Sikh Advocates Academy.
