May 17, 2012 (Fremont, California) – The Workplace Religious Freedom Act (AB1964) passed through the Appropriations Committee yesterday in the California Assembly. The bill now moves forward to the Assembly Floor for a vote. If this bill becomes law, it will sharply reduce job discrimination against Sikhs and other religious minorities in California. If you live in California and support equal opportunity for all, please ask sangat members to sign our automatic petition to members of the California legislature.
Next Steps
AB1964 still faces numerous challenges in the days and weeks ahead. The Sikh Coalition will continue to provide resources to ensure that California Sikhs remain at the forefront of this historic initiative. If you live in California, please sign and share our automatic petition in support of AB1964.

The Sikh Coalition is thankful to Attorney Amar Shergill for testifying in support of AB1964 before the Appropriations Committee and to the California Sikh community for its continuing support of this initiative. As always, we encourage Sikhs everywhere to fearlessly maintain their articles of faith.
