Dear Supporter,

All attendees are required to read this email in its entirety before the event.  The Sikh Coalition is not responsible for any participant denied entry to the White House for failing to comply with the security requirements outlined in this email and on the White House website.

We are pleased that you will be able to join us for an exclusive, non-transferable, invitation-only, Policy Briefing at the White House on Friday, June 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Policy Briefing at the White House shall be focused on issues of unique interest to the Sikh community, including many of the core issues the Sikh Coalition traditionally addresses.  The briefing will be conducted by White House and Executive Agency officials. To our knowledge, this is the first time the White House has offered to hold a briefing for Sikhs on uniquely Sikh concerns.

By way of background, the briefing is a part of the Sikh Coalition’s Sikh Advocate Academy. Thus you will have the opportunity to meet Sikh Coalition-trained Advocates on June 8th as well as our staff. Accordingly, we have organized a day-long celebration of Sikh Activism on Friday, June 8th in Washington, DC. As a critical member of the Sikh Coalition team and as an activist in the community, we are thrilled you will be able to join us.

Finally, we have received confirmation from the White House that our group has been scheduled for a tour of the East Wing of the White House BEFORE the briefing. Yes, it is going to be an early morning!

Please see below for specific details and instructions for each part of our program on June 8th.  We realize this is a very lengthy email with many details, but it is critical that you read through it very carefully.

Please note that regrettably kirpans are not permitted in the White House per security protocol.  While we are working diligently to have this policy amended, we do have confirmation that it will still be in place at the time of the Tour and Briefing.  As such, if you wear a kirpan and you would like to still attend the Tour and Briefing you will need to store the kirpan in a secure location before passing through security.  Again we sincerely regret that this is the current policy.

The U.S. Secret Service reserves the right to prohibit any other personal items.

Please note that no storage facilities are available on or around the complex. Individuals who arrive with prohibited items will not be permitted to enter the White House.  We realize this is highly inconvenient for people, especially given the full day program, and we apologize but this is their security protocol and there is no flexibility with it.  Please plan accordingly and travel light.

We have been told the self guided tour takes about half an hour.
