  • Be Present and Request that the FBI Track Hate Crimes Against Sikhs

"Senators, I ask that you stand up for us. As lawmakers and leaders, you have the power to shape public opinion. Your words carry weight. When others scapegoat or demean people because of who they are, use your power to say that is wrong. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. I know what happened at Oak Creek was not an isolated incident. I fear it may happen again if we don’t stand up and do something.” ----Preview of Tomorrow’s Testimony by Harpreet Singh Saini

In response to the extremist attack in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) will chair a hearing on hate violence and violent extremism entitled “Hate Crimes and the Threat of Domestic Extremism" tomorrow, Wednesday, September 19.

The hearing will feature the testimony of a young Sikh, Harpreet Singh Saini, who lost his mother in the Oak Creek massacre. During his testimony, Harpreet Singh will request that the Federal Bureau of Investigation officially track hate crimes against Sikhs.

We need as many people as possible to come to the hearing to show the Senate that we care about this issue. Numbers matter. Be a part of history. Come show your support in person tomorrow!

PLEASE NOTE THE ROOM CHANGE – To accommodate the large number of people who plan on attending, the hearing room has been changed to the Hart Senate Office Building, Room 216, Washington, DC. The hearing starts at 2:30 p.m. Please come to the hearing room no later than 2:00 p.m. to secure prime seating.
