2012 marked more than a decade of impact by the Sikh Coalition and it has proved to be an important year for the community. Recent organizational accomplishments include:
- Led a robust and public response to Oak Creek tragedy, that included government engagement, media engagement, and community engagement.
- Led efforts to secure the first ever United States Senate hearing on hate crimes and domestic extremism following the Oak Creek tragedy.
- Appeared on and in CNN, NBC Nightly News, Associated Press, New York Times, Time Magazine and countless other media outlets in support of the community after the tragic hate-motivated killings of Sikhs in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
- Led efforts to have U.S. Senators & House of Representatives Call for Anti-Sikh Hate Crime Tracking.
- Created FlyRights, a nationally acclaimed mobile phone application to combat profiling at airports.
- Led effort to have AB1964 - the Workplace Religious Freedom Act signed into law in California, the nation’s strongest workplace religious freedom law.
- Organized a first-ever White House briefing on Sikh civil rights issues.
- Sikh defeats Autozone in Federal Court, Autozone Changes Practice.
- Sikh restauranteur obtains exemption to wear kara.
- Launched Junior Sikh Coalition, a leadership and empowerment program for Sikh Youth in the tri-state area.
- Created countless resources for Sikh Community Members and for California Sikhs for November Sikh Awareness Month in California.
