Dear Supporter Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

My name is Pawanpreet Singh and I am a member of the Junior Sikh Coalition. I am 15 years old and I live in Bronx, New York. Growing up, I often found myself feeling alone and not being able to share my feelings with anyone. I now understand that this was a feeling that many other Sikh-American youth can relate to.

The Junior Sikh Coalition helped me get through this seclusion. I quickly found myself surrounded by a loving and dedicated group of peers. Through their kindness and resolve for youth empowerment, they encouraged me to speak up and not be the shy kid at my school.

The Junior Sikh Coalition believes that every Sikh youth has the capacity to lead and has the ability to create change in their communities. The youth leadership development program fosters Sikh youth in becoming fearless leaders while creating social change in their local communities.

Through the Junior Sikh Coalition, I have met countless people, from a variety of backgrounds that I related to. I received training in public speaking, advocacy, civil and human rights, and social justice. I applied these skills to my academics and personal life, whether i was working on a project for a class, or talking to a stranger on the street about Sikhism at the Sikh Day Parade.

I continue to attend Junior Sikh Coalition meetings for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, however, I am committed to supporting my fellow Junior Sikh Coalition members and my community. Throughout my time with the Junior Sikh Coalition, we have developed a team founded on reliability and interdependence, while sustaining responsibility and independence. Each of us carry the will to create change within our community locally now and, ultimately, nationally.

We encourage youth to sign up for the program as it can help them the way it helped me! We believe that the work helps us in all aspects of our lives, including developing skill sets that are applicable to our academic, professional, and personal lives, while creating everlasting connections with professionals, youth groups, and the Sikh sangat.
