In the past two months alone, the Sikh American voice has reached at least 110 million Americans through the Sikh Coalition’s strategic media engagement. This represents more than a third of the U.S. population. Thanks to your support, in just two months our media reach exceeds the year-long effort of organizations that are many times larger than ours.
This success is not a coincidence. Last October, the Sikh Coalition hired the best media professional in our area of work, because that is what our community deserves. The results speak for themselves.
Top Media Results Since June 1, 2015
On July 27th, through the direct support of the Sikh Coalition, Harpreet Singh Saini was featured in the Op/Ed pages of the New York Times, one of the top newspapers in the world. In the wake of the Charleston tragedy, and nearly three years after losing his mother to a hate crime in Oak Creek, Harpreet made the case for passing hate crime laws in all 50 states.
In response to the June 17th Charleston tragedy, the Sikh Coalition worked with authors and allies across the country to write, edit, pitch and place nine Op-Eds over the following ten days that reached nearly five million Americans.
On June 15th, in response to the favorable court ruling in Iknoor Singh’s ROTC case, the Sikh Coalition activated a rapid response media plan that garnered coverage in over 350 news outlets, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press and the New York Daily News.
On June 21st, we followed up on the Iknoor Singh case by successfully placing a well-timed Op/Ed on the victory in Newsday, one of the ten largest newspapers in the country.
On June 5th, we secured a high-profile radio segment on NPR’s All Things Considered, which explored our campaign to end religious discrimination in the U.S. military. That radio segment, which airs to 25 million daily listeners, was then syndicated to over 20 local radio stations across the country.
On July 14th, we placed another high-profile Op-Ed on the federal government’s controversial “Countering Violent Extremism” program in CNN a day before a Capitol Hill hearing on the subject.
June 1st, we ensured that the Sikh voice was featured prominently in responses to the Supreme Court’s historic ruling against religious discrimination by Abercrombie and Fitch. The Sikh Coalition was featured in over 200 news outlets, including the New York Times and on the front page of the Wall Street Journal – the two biggest newspapers in the country – in response to the landmark decision.
These achievements are positioning Sikh Americans as thought leaders on some of the most important issues of our times.
When you invest in the Sikh Coalition we aim to get the best return possible on that investment. We look forward to continuing this work in partnership with you.
