February 22, 2017 (New York, NY) - In recent months, we have witnessed an increase in hate crimes against Sikh, Muslim, and Jewish communities across the United States. Just last month, a mosque in Quebec City, Canada was attacked by a white supremacist, resulting in the loss of six lives – a tragedy reminiscent of the one the Sikh community faced in Oak Creek, Wisconsin in 2012.

Our communities must take proactive steps to ensure that such incidents are never repeated.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has published many free resources to help houses of worship prepare for emergencies. One example is a free online training course on preventing tragedies like the ones in Oak Creek and Quebec City:

Please share these resources with your local gurdwara.

The Sikh Coalition will continue to share resources like this in the coming weeks and months, and we welcome your ideas and feedback for making our community more resilient.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
