  • [Today] Join the Jagtar Singh Johal Conversation @3pm EST

March 2, 2018 (New York, NY) — Join the Sikh Coalition and Ensaaf today at 3pm EST on Facebook Live for a conversation about the case of Jagtar (“Jaggi”) Singh Johal, a British Sikh man who was arrested in Punjab, India and has been detained without charges since November 4, 2017. Ensaaf, which works to achieve justice for human rights violations in India, has been calling for an independent investigation and an end to Johal’s arbitrary detention.

“Reliable information can be difficult to discern; this is why we’re discussing the Johal case with Ensaaf,” said Sikh Coalition Community Development Director Rucha Kaur. “Ensaaf is the leading organization working to investigate and document enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions in Punjab, and build evidence to hold the chief architects of these crimes accountable.”

Rucha will join Ensaaf Co-Founder and Co-Director Sukhman Dhami for the hour-long discussion that will also touch on other Sikh human rights issues. Ensaaf, which was founded in 2004, works to document human rights abuses and organize survivors with the goal of ending impunity and achieving justice for human rights violations in India, with a special focus on Punjab.

“I look forward to joining the Sikh Coalition for this important conversation and sharing updates on the Johal case, along with other work we are doing at Ensaaf,” said Sukhman. He and Rucha will also answer community questions during the session.
