  • Sikh Awareness Celebrated With L.A. Kings

April 3, 2018 (Los Angeles, CA) – On Monday night, the Los Angeles Kings joined over 75 Sikh Americans and the Sikh Coalition to celebrate their first-ever Sikh Awareness Night. The game, which featured a Sikh color guard and Sikh community awareness initiatives in the main concourse before the game, reached a new demographic that follows hockey, including the crowd of 18,230 in attendance.

The first L.A. Kings Sikh Awareness hockey game comes in direct response to the four previous Sikh Awareness games with the Los Angeles Clippers and the NHL team is already verbally committed to doing the event again next season with even more opportunities for highlighting the Sikh community throughout the event.

“Just like our L.A. Clippers events, it is fantastic to see this initiative launch with the L.A. Kings and we are excited about the future for growing Sikh engagement with both of these teams,” said Southern California Community Development Manager, Inderpreet Kaur. “In our never-ending efforts to raise the Sikh profile and educate other communities about who we are, these are important relationships to grow.”

The event comes on the heels of the Sikh Coalition also conducting a two-day Bullying Prevention Forum in Stockton, California at the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Stockton on March 23rd and 24th. Nearly 110 children and parents joined Inderpreet and Sikh Coalition Community Development Director, Rucha Kaur for an in-depth discussion. This Know Your Rights presentation also highlighted the additional resources and support that the Sikh Coalition provides to further combat and prevent school bullying.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
