Last week, we started organizing a national voter registration initiative to support ongoing community efforts to register Sikh voters nationwide. One week later, we already have 11 Sikh community leaders in CA, IL, KY, MI, NJ, TX and VA organizing voter registration drives around National Sikh Voter Registration Day on September 23rd.
This is an exciting start, but when you join us to volunteer and lead your own local voter registration event, you will become a part of one of the most important aspects of increasing Sikh civic engagement in America. Will you help add your state and county to this initiative?
My job as the Sikh Coalition’s Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager in Washington D.C. is to engage congressional lawmakers on Sikh civil rights issues. Do you know which offices pay attention to our concerns the most? It’s the offices where Sikhs turn out in large numbers to vote and are hearing from you beyond election day.
Regardless of political affiliation, we want sangats making their voices and votes count locally and nationally. Increasing Sikh voter registration is necessary for building power, and holding our elected officials accountable. This is why we need your help getting Sikhs registered to vote.
To sign up to host a National Sikh Voter Registration Day event, please email the Sikh Coalition’s policy and advocacy team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you sign up, we will provide you with the tools and guidance for hosting and promoting a successful event within your community. This support includes a comprehensive toolkit that will walk you through every step of the process, an easy-to-use online voter registration portal, and access to a introductory webinar we produced.
Let's work together to forge a path where our civic engagement elevates Sikh civil rights struggles. Our mobilization now can help create a better tomorrow for Sikhs and other religious minorities affected by bigotry, discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
To sign up to host a National Sikh Voter Registration Day event or for additional information or questions please email email@example.com.
