Dear Supporter Ji,
Two weeks ago, the Sikh Coalition kicked off the launch of its new and improved Back to School Toolkit, featuring even more lesson plans, teaching tools, and the first-ever C3 Resources for educators to effectively teach students about Sikhism through inquiry. These C3 Resources are now available to more than 9,000 teachers in states that use this framework to guide their school curricula. Our collection includes elementary and middle/high school lesson plans, a discussion guide for CNN’s United Shades of America episode about the Sikh community, and ancillary background materials about Sikhism and the Sikh community for educators. Click here to access it.
We wanted to ensure that parents and educators had easy-to-use resources that would provide the necessary information to get conversations started. With this launch, we worked to empower the community to develop effective and fruitful relationships with schools and school districts, resulting in a higher quality of life for Sikh students. Click here to watch a testimonial of community leader Ishmeet Kaur engaging her school district to teach more than 1,200 students in her children’s school district about Sikhism.
Since its launch, we have disseminated the Toolkit to more than 170 educators, nearly 20 Indian and Punjabi media personnel, and over 30,000 community members. Community members who speak Punjabi learned more through our “Back to School Toolkit: Explained” video that made its way across community groups on WhatsApp. Also, we have seen an uptick in people accessing the Toolkit online, with more than 100 people reaching out for more information and accompanying resources within the first five days of its release. Lastly, multiple gurdwaras across the nation held presentations for their sangats explaining the toolkit’s resources and how parents can learn about effective ways to engage educators in their area.
We at the Sikh Coalition are thankful for the immense amount of support that we have received from community members like yourself during the past two weeks. It is because of donations and support from you that we are able to develop and share such a robust collection of resources that will increase awareness and visibility for Sikhs in America. As always, we urge you to practice your faith fearlessly.
