September 12, 2019 (Los Angeles, California) – The Sikh Coalition, in partnership with the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance, is excited to announce the display of the groundbreaking Sikh Project photography exhibition at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, California.

The Sikh Project, in collaboration with the talented British photographers Amit and Naroop, captures the beauty of the Sikh faith and the depth of the Sikh American experience. Launched to critical acclaim in 2016, nearly 50,000 Americans have seen the Sikh Project at its various displays from California to Maryland, and the exhibition has reached another 20 million through media coverage. Through November of this year, the Museum of Tolerance will feature 28 of the Sikh Project’s 38 portraits of Sikh men and women that embody the triumphs, challenges, and diversity of the Sikh community in the United States.

“The Sikh Project continues to help the Sikh community to be recognized and understood by our fellow Americans across the country,” said Raginder Singh, a California-based violinist who sat for one of the Sikh Project’s portraits. “The fact that our neighbors can see the faces and read the stories of the diverse range of Sikhs featured in this exhibit is a testament to both art’s ability to build bridges among people and the Sikh Coalition’s continued commitment to raising Sikh awareness.”

The hosting of the Sikh Project at the Museum of Tolerance--an institution created to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today--comes at a critical moment for interfaith solidarity. As the Sikh Project reaches new audiences, it continues to educate others about Sikhi and the diverse experiences of minority communities in the United States more broadly.

“We are excited to feature the Sikh Project at the Museum of Tolerance this fall,” said Liebe Geft, Director of the Museum of Tolerance. “The Museum builds bridges of understanding, connection, and hope that promote thriving communities. By hosting this beautiful, special exhibition, we hope to inspire our visitors to get to know their Sikh neighbors in Southern California and across the United States.”

The Southern California Sikh community will celebrate the launch of this exhibition with an exclusive, community-focused reception at the Museum of Tolerance this Sunday, September 15th.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
