  • Sevadaar Video Stories Feature Sikhs Nationwide

December 5, 2019 (New York, NY) – Today marks International Volunteer Day, and the Sikh Coalition has been celebrating all week by releasing our “Sikhs in Seva” series.

“Sikhs in Seva” spotlights sevadaars around the United States who are making an impact in their communities. As Sikhs continue to gain visibility, the Sikh Coalition recognizes the importance of championing sevadaars at the local level who are changing lives through seva.

“In every corner of the country, Sikhs are finding ways to better their communities because that is what Sikhi teaches – to serve selflessly,” said Satjeet Kaur, Sikh Coalition Executive Director. “As an organization working to redefine what’s possible for Sikhs in America, we also recognize the importance of sharing these individual stories because it’s how you inspire others, especially the next generation, to engage in seva.”

“I experienced the impact of hate after my family moved to Olathe and a stranger told my dad, ‘Terrorist, go back to your country,’” said 14-year-old sevadaar Komalpreet Kaur of Olathe, KS. “After that incident, I knew that I wanted to work towards building a world without hate, and I recognized creating opportunities to raise Sikh awareness and strengthening relationships between my sangat and town as my way to make a difference.”

Watch the complete “Sikhs in Seva” series online, and share the series with your friends and family on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
