Dear Supporter Ji,
Throughout 2019, the Sikh Coalition's legal team has continued fighting injustice in schools, workplaces, and communities throughout the nation. Unfortunately, going to court--often against large public- and private-sector organizations with seemingly endless resources--can be a costly, time-consuming affair.
We need your help to make all of this work possible.
Just this month, we took on another critical case: an attack on a Sikh Uber driver, who was berated and strangled by a customer in Bellingham, Washington, because of the color of his skin and the fact that he wore a turban and beard. We advocated for the Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to charge his attacker with a hate crime--which they did--while also doing media and community engagement work, and protecting the driver’s anonymity.
Because of contributions from supporters like you, we are able to serve as an “insurance policy” for the Sikh community, helping us to defend the rights of vulnerable people in need. We hope no Sikh ever needs our high-quality free legal representation because of a hateful assault or discrimination in the workplace--but, when they do, we’re there to help.
Please donate today so we may continue to serve the community in this capacity.
