    April 7, 2020 (New York, NY) -- In response to the federal emergency legislation packages and rapid changes in how U.S. government agencies are operating, the Sikh Coalition has put together a COVID-19 FAQ pertaining to immigration and citizenship.

    The purpose of this FAQ is to help Sikh community members in the United States who have complex immigration and citizenship questions. We recognize those concerns and challenges are unique and in some cases exacerbated during the COVID-19 outbreak. For a video summary of the FAQ in Punjabi, please click here.

    The FAQ includes:

    • Details on COVID-19 testing, medical care, food, and unemployment benefits pertaining to non-U.S. citizens;
    • Immigration hearing information;
    • United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) information pertaining to work authorization, visa information, and naturalization ceremonies; and
    • United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) updates, including ICE law enforcement operations, hearings, bonds, and deportation information.

    While the Sikh Coalition is not an immigration-focused organization and cannot provide legal advice on individual immigration cases, we have collected resources and information on how immigration status may be impacted during this national crisis. This information is not exhaustive, and it is subject to change due to the rapidly evolving situation.

    For a wealth of additional COVID-19 English and Punjabi resources, please continue to visit our COVID-19 website. These resources currently include COVID-19 health guidelines, analyses of federal emergency relief legislation, information on how to apply for state benefits, critical updates for Sikh medical professionals, and much more. As we continue to shift our organizational priorities to meet the Sikh community needs at this time of national crisis, please expect new and updated resources wherever applicable.

    As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
