  • Updated and New COVID-19 Resources

June 24, 2020 (New York, NY) -- Since the first reported novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case arrived inside the United States in January, more than 2,350,000 people have been infected and at least 120,000 have died.

As states across the nation continue to reopen in various phases, COVID-19 remains extremely dangerous to vulnerable populations and continues to circulate widely. Though the number of new deaths has been curving downward from the highs experienced in May, more than 30,000 new cases are still being identified each day. Many states have also seen a sizable increase in reported cases as they reopen. These states seeing recent increases include: California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Arizona, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Ohio.

Though the Sikh Coalition is not a public health organization, we recognize that we must all support each other during this time. Since March, we have been sharing updated resources, in English and Punjabi, pertaining to COVID-19 healthcare, financial aid services, immigration and travel guidance. Additionally, the Sikh Coalition has been working with the North American Sikh Medical and Dental Association (NASMDA) to create Sikh-specific guidance for medical professionals and gurdwaras.

“Accessible resources and timely information in the midst of this ongoing health crisis remain critical,” said Sikh Coalition Executive Director, Satjeet Kaur. “We remain fully committed to providing these free resources for as long as necessary to meet the unique needs of the Sikh community during this challenging time.”

The creation and dissemination of COVID-19 resources continues as the Sikh Coalition also provides COVID-19 media support to sangats nationwide. All of these efforts are happening in conjunction with the Sikh Coalition’s core program work to combat hate, end employment discrimination, create safer schools, empower the community, and raise the Sikh profile.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
