Dear Supporter Ji,

I hope all is well and that you and your families are safe and healthy during this time. I am writing to invite you to join the Sikh Coalition team for a virtual Community Town Hall on Building Community Power After a Hate Crime

Whether it is a brutal physical assault--like what happened to Colorado sangat member Lakhwant Singh--or verbal harassment, Sikhs across the country face discrimination on a daily basis. It is important for our entire community to understand what bias-motivated crimes are, how they can be effectively handled, and why it is important for appropriate charges to be brought against perpetrators. Just as critically, we as a community need to talk about what other proactive advocacy and education steps we can take to stem the fear and ignorance that leads to such hate.

Next week, join us for a community town hall where the Sikh Coalition team will provide updates, answer questions, and discuss next steps including raising awareness about bias prevention, engaging educators to create safer classrooms, and getting involved in civic engagement initiatives.

When: Sunday, August 16, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM MDT
RSVP: Sign up here to receive a link to join the meeting!

We are grateful to Colorado sangat members and our community allies for stepping up in support of Lakhwant Singh, and look forward to continuing our collaboration to combat hate, create a safer environment for our children, and ensure that all of us are able to practice our faith freely.

For more information or questions about the conversation, please contact us at community@sikhcoalition.org.
