  • [GOTV] Announcing: Sikh Voter Phone Banking

September 17, 2020 (New York, NY) -- Last night, at our digital event ਸਾਡੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣੋ: Your Vote is Your Voice, the Sikh Coalition announced the launch of our phone banking initiative to contact 25,000 Sikh voters in 9 key states this fall!

Our virtual phone banking will take place every Saturday from Saturday, September 26 to Saturday, October 17 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM EDT. To hit our goal of reaching thousands of voters, we need hundreds of volunteers to join us! Complete your screening survey and sign up for at least one of the four sessions today in order to reserve your spot!

“Phone banking is a critical step in GOTV (Get Out The Vote) work where volunteers call voters to remind them of the upcoming election and answer questions,” explained Nikki Singh, Sikh Coalition Policy and Advocacy Manager. “Through this initiative, sevadaars will directly connect with thousands of Sikh households in key ‘swing’ states like Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, and Texas.”

At each of our three-hour phone banking sessions, sevadaars will receive a virtual training on how to use our platform to make their calls and then have access to real time support from Sikh Coalition staff as they reach out to voters. Please note that all sevadaars who choose to phone bank are expected to attend the full three hour slot they sign up for and will need access to a computer with Google Chrome, headphones, and a stable wifi connection throughout their session. Each sevadaar will also need to sign an ethics agreement before phone banking to ensure that everyone respects the privacy of those we are calling.

More than 50 volunteers have already signed up for this groundbreaking effort. Will you join them and spend a few hours on a Saturday in order to ensure that our community turns out to vote when it matters most?

As a reminder, the Sikh Coalition is a non-profit and non-partisan organization. All of our GOTV work--including these calls to voters--is being done in support of broader Sikh American civic engagement, and not for the benefit of any candidate, elected official, or political party. For this reason, those who sign up to make calls will not be permitted to encourage voters to cast their ballot for President Trump, former Vice President Biden, or any other candidate or party.

The Sikh Coalition continues to promote Sikh civic engagement through events like last night’s webinar featuring Sikh voices in public service. Additionally, please recall that this Sunday is National Sikh Voter Registration Day; you can volunteer to help members of your sangat register to vote by emailing gotv@sikhcoalition.org. Finally, please continue to visit our website for critical information on voter registration, voting by mail, and more.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
