As the Sikh American community knows all too well, times of national tension can have profoundly negative and dangerous consequences for racial, ethnic, and religious minorities and other marginalized groups. For this reason, the Sikh Coalition continues to urge vigilance and caution for every Sikh in the United States.
If you or someone you know experiences hate violence, bias-based property damage, hate vandalism, or threats thereof, immediately seek safety and medical attention if necessary. Call law enforcement as soon as possible to report the incident. Be aware that law enforcement should not ask you about your immigration status; in the event that they do, you have the right to not answer this question. Please contact the Sikh Coalition at 212-655-3095 or fill out our
reporting form immediately after the incident. Additionally, you can download our free
FAQ guide on hate crimes and hate speech.
We will continue to share information and weigh in on the evolving election results in the days ahead. In the meantime, we encourage you to consult trusted media sources as our nation watches the results unfold together.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
