Dear Supporter Ji,
At the beginning of this year--long before the challenges of the pandemic or this recent election--my gurdwara faced an act of hate. In our time of need, it was the Sikh Coalition who stepped in to help.
I’m writing to share our story with you, and to ask you to join me in supporting the Sikh Coalition in their end-of-year fundraising efforts.
Unfortunately, these kinds of investigations don’t always yield quick results. We still don’t know who scrawled that hateful message outside our gurdwara, but that didn’t stop the Sikh Coalition from continuing to help us move forward.
In the weeks after the incident, they helped us coordinate an interfaith open house so we could welcome hundreds of our neighbors who had never been to a gurdwara before. And then, months later, when a national media outlet discovered a prominent white nationlist operating in our city, they reconvened local, state, and federal law enforcement officials for an update on our case and other hate crimes in the area.
Through these developments, the Sikh Coalition was able to provide us legal, community engagement, and press assistance--all for free. If you are in a position to do so, I urge you to share your dasvandh with them to ensure that the next gurdwara that is threatened has access to these same resources. Their ongoing support has made a real difference to our sangat, and it will mean the same and more to others in the future.
