  • Georgia Senate Runoff Elections

November 30, 2020 (Atlanta, GA) -- This month and next month, Georgia is holding a series of local and statewide runoff elections. A runoff is a rematch that is held when none of the candidates meet the criteria for winning; in Georgia, if no candidate gets 50% of the votes or more, the top two vote-earners then face off again.

On December 1, there will be local-level runoffs in various parts of the state, as well as a runoff for the 5th Congressional District and 39th State Senate District. These elections will be followed by two critical, statewide U.S. Senate runoff elections that will determine the national governing landscape for the next two years. One race features Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler against Democrat Rev. Dr. Raphael Warnock; the other pits Republican Sen. David Perdue against Democrat John Ossoff. (This ballot will also include an expected runoff for the Georgia Public Service Commission.)

As the Sikh Coalition continues to prioritize non-partisan voter engagement in support of broader Sikh American civic engagement nationwide, we encourage every Sikh American who has the right to vote in Georgia to know their rights, know the rules, and make their voice heard.
