Dear Supporter Ji,
Today marks the 20th anniversary of when Balbir Singh Sodhi was shot and killed outside his gas station in Mesa, Arizona. His murder was the first deadly post-9/11 hate crime.
As we pay tribute to the Sodhi family by honoring Balbir ji and the many other Americans impacted by hate over the past two decades, I wanted to reach out and make sure that you saw our email last week about Honoring Balbir Singh Sodhi Through Shared Resilience in the Face of Hate. The event, which starts tonight at 7 PM local time / 10 PM EST / 7 PM PST, will be livestreamed here and on the Sikh Coalition's Facebook page.
It has been a privilege for myself and my colleagues at the Sikh Coalition to work on every aspect of this event alongside the Sodhi family and the Global Sikh Alliance, as well as with special assistance from the Revolutionary Love Project. You can learn more about the event--which will honor Balbir ji and all those lost to hate, while also celebrating 20 years of interfaith solidarity and resilience--on our blog.
Together, we will keep working to make every American's right to practice their faith fearlessly even stronger and more secure for the next 20 years and beyond. We hope you and your friends and family will join us tonight.
