Dear Supporter Ji,
Twenty years ago today, a group of volunteers took the first step in establishing the Sikh Coalition by formally filing for incorporation of our organization.
In reality, though, the work began more than a month earlier--in the hours after the attacks on September 11, 2001. The Sikh Coalition was created in a moment of emergency and run by volunteers donating their time and resources to serve the sangat. Twenty years later, we have evolved into the largest Sikh civil rights nonprofit in the United States--and with the investment and support of sangat members like you, we’ve moved from not only reacting in crises to also deliberate, proactive efforts with far-reaching impact.
We had big ideas on how to celebrate this anniversary, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Instead, we’re choosing to view this milestone as an opportunity to pause, reflect, and plan for the path forward for the next 20 years. In the last twenty years, we have collectively:
I am grateful for the progress we have made as both an organization and a community, but the work is never done.
A core part of planning for the future is ensuring we have the resources we need to continue serving the sangat. That’s why today, we are launching our end of year fundraising campaign to raise $1.2 million before December 31st. Meeting this goal means that we can take on more legal cases, advocate for more national and state-level policy changes, produce more educational materials, support more gurdwaras, and raise more Sikh voices in the media.
To set us on the right course forward, we humbly ask that you consider making your donation sooner rather than later. Knowing that we have a rock-solid financial foundation will allow us to remain hyper-focused on our programmatic work through the rest of 2021. By making your donation now, you are setting us up for success--for next year, and the next 20 years after that.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
