January 27, 2022 (New York, NY) -- On February 5, the Sikh Coalition, in partnership with city agencies and other community and civil rights organizations, will head to JFK International Airport to distribute free hate crime prevention and response materials to taxi and rideshare drivers.
Are you interested in joining us at JFK on Saturday, February 5 from 2:00 to 4:30 PM?
Email community@sikhcoalition.org to RSVP! Volunteers will meet at the Federal Circle AirTrain station and take shuttles to different taxi and rideshare areas of the airport for resource distribution.
This community mobilization comes on the heels of the assault of a Sikh taxi driver at JFK airport,
which is being charged as a hate crime, as well as a continued general increase in bias-motivated attacks across the city.
Taxi and rideshare drivers from our communities are vulnerable to hate and discrimination given their interactions with the public; in the past several years, the Sikh Coalition has provided free legal aid to a number of Sikh drivers who have been violently attacked. We continue to proactively distribute resources in the hope of helping drivers to prevent hateful incidents or protect themselves when they do occur, and we are excited to partner with city agencies and other local organizations to reach individuals in need outside of our own community.
Again, you can get more information or
sign up to join us by emailing community@sikhcoalition.org. Let us know if you have any questions.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
