Today, Sikh Coalition Senior Policy and Advocacy Manager Nikki Singh will join the “Break the Silence: Justice for Asian Women” rally being held in New York City this evening at 6:30 PM ET. Versions of this rally, memorializing those lost in the March 16 shootings and other victims of hate violence, are being organized by the groups behind the January 30 Asian Justice Rally and will be held in nine different states throughout the day. On March 12, Asian Americans Advancing Justice--Atlanta
released a joint statement to #RememberMarch16, which the Sikh Coalition signed as a co-sponsor along with more than 400 other community-based organizations. We are looking ahead to additional moments to highlight solidarity this year. First, we are signing on as a partner for the
National AAPI Day Against Bullying+Hate, led by Act to Change and to be held on May 18. Additionally, we are supporting the
Unity March, an Asian American multicultural event to advance socioeconomic and cultural equity, racial justice, and solidarity on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Originally planned for September of last year, the March has been rescheduled for June 25.
Finally, in the next few weeks, the Sikh Coalition and our partners are also working together to commemorate the upcoming one year anniversary since the deadly attack on the FedEx ground facility in Indianapolis, IN. In that shooting, four members of the local sangat, along with four others, were killed by a gunman; countless others were injured or traumatized by the violence. We are grateful to the Indiana House of Representatives for
introducing and adopting a resolution marking the occasion earlier this month, and we look forward to sharing more about April’s commemoration soon.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
