We also remain in direct contact with the NYPD, which released video surveillance of the suspect and a request for tips
earlier today. Richmond Hill community leaders and the Sikh Coalition remind everyone that racism in any form is unacceptable, and that no one group deserves--or is responsible for--the systemic violence or hate that plagues too many of our communities. We have also confirmed that the NYPD has correctly categorized this incident as an anti-Sikh attack for purposes of reporting. Finally, we have been in contact with the FBI, which is aware of the case but deferring to local authorities.
The Sikh Coalition is deeply appreciative of the Richmond Hill community leaders who have rallied around Mr. Singh in his time of need. We understand that there will be a rally in support of Mr. Singh, on Thursday, April 7 at 6:30 PM to be held on 95 Avenue near Lefferts Boulevard, where the attack took place.
Finally, in coordination with the local sangat, we thank the elected officials, law enforcement officials, members of the press, and leaders of allied civil rights organizations who have expressed their support of Mr. Singh, asked after his health, and spoken out about the wider issue of hate violence. We will continue to provide updates on this case as they become available.
As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
