“Each year, Punjabi Sikhs make up more and more of the American trucking workforce,” said Sahej Preet Singh, Sikh Coalition Community Development Manager. “We were glad to meet hundreds of Punjabi truckers in Fresno and talk to them about the resources that we can provide to protect their religious freedom, fight workplace discrimination, and keep them safe on the road.”
Throughout our more than 20 years, the Sikh Coalition has worked for the benefit of Sikh truckers on multiple occasions, including through our pro bono legal services. In 2016, we settled an
eight-year hiring discrimination case with corporate giant J.B. Hunt on behalf of four Sikh truckers; our attorneys have also provided representation in other instances of employment discrimination, including issues around
truckers’ rights to maintain their articles of faith. In addition, we continue to engage with government organizations like the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to fight for inclusive policies.
“The Sikh Coalition is a strong ally to truckers from our community,” said Raman Dhillon, CEO of the North American Punjabi Trucking Association. “We are proud of our increasing influence on this growing field of employment and critical component of U.S. infrastructure. As we continue to fight together for policies that will further empower our truckers, the first step is knowing our rights. ”
The Sikh Coalition continues to create and distribute
English and Punjabi resources for not just truckers, but Sikhs across all employment sectors and in the community at large. We believe that everyone should understand their rights as they pertain to religious freedoms, hate violence and harassment, dealings with law enforcement, and more. If you or someone you know have experienced workplace discrimination, whether in the trucking industry or elsewhere,

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
