  • In one week, sangats nationwide will take action to #RememberOakCreek

July 30, 2022 (New York, NY) – In August, our nation will commemorate the ten year anniversary of the August 5, 2012 Oak Creek, WI gurdwara shooting. To mark the anniversary and honor the resilience of the Sikh community, sangats from coast to coast are leading Day of Seva and Night of Vigil events.

As a reminder, the nationwide events will take place to honor those injured and in remembrance of those whose lives were taken: Paramjit Kaur Saini, Sita Singh, Ranjit Singh, Prakash Singh, Suveg Singh Khattra, Satwant Singh Kaleka, and Baba Punjab Singh.

For cities hosting Day of Seva, projects will include cleaning up community parks, hosting food drives, providing meals to homeless shelters, and more. For cities hosting Night of Vigil, evening candlelight vigils have been planned with invitations extended to neighbors and local interfaith groups.

Interested in participating in an event near you? Email our team at dayofseva@sikhcoalition.org to be connected directly with a local project lead.

National Day of Seva and National Night of Vigil serve as an opportunity to stand together with the Oak Creek sangat on this important anniversary and honor the lives impacted by the shooting. As we continue our tireless work to combat and prevent hate, we hope you will join us this August to #RememberOakCreek.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
