November 1, 2022 (Whiteland, IN) - On October 25, 2022, the Sikh Coalition hosted a Sikh awareness training for more than 100 administrators and staff at Clark-Pleasant Middle School in Whiteland, Indiana. This training comes seven months after Sikh Coalition staff delivered training to over 100 administrators and staff at Whiteland Community High School (WCHS) in Whiteland, Indiana.
The Sikh Coalition also provided guidance and consultation to Administration at Clark-Pleasant Middle School, who have committed to ensuring that their 7th grade social studies curriculum includes teaching and learning resources about Sikhism.
As a reminder, the Sikh Coalition began this advocacy in Whiteland, Indiana after our client, a Sikh student,
safely returned to school after facing severe bias-motivated harassment and assault in February 2022. The Sikh Coalition also hosted a virtual Community Town Hall for the Indianapolis Sikh community in March that focused on all of the related issues taking place within Indiana’s public school system. During the event, current and former WCHS students expressed their experiences and how they would like the sangat to move forward in creating safer schools for all students.
There are multiple opportunities to engage educators in raising Sikh awareness in the classroom as Indiana includes teaching about Sikhism in its social studies standards. Please
visit our website for lesson plans, reading lists, and other resources that you can share with your teachers today. For additional questions about our education work, email

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
