Press Conference Today: Mayor and Chancellor of Schools to Announce Groundbreaking Regulation to Prevent Bias-based Harassment in NYC Schools

(New York, NY) September 3, 2008 - Today  at 11:30AM Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor of Schools Joel Klein, along with other elected officials, the Sikh Coalition, and other community organizations, will announce the implementation of a new Chancellor's Regulation on bias-based harassment and bullying for city schools.  The new Regulation of the Chancellor A-832 functions to, "establish a procedure for the filing, investigation, and resolution of complaints of student-to-student bias-based harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying."   

This announcement comes after a series of hate attacks on Sikh students in NYC schools, most recently with two attacks in Queens schools this past June.
 

  • What:  Press Conference announcing new Department of Education Chancellor's Regulation A-832, which will define, track, and resolve bias-based harassment and bullying in schools.
