Have you, your child or family ever been teased because of your Sikh appearance? Are you tired of the lack of understanding? What are we doing to prevent these incidents from happening in the first place? The Sikh Coalition has developed a special training course to answer these very questions. Now, we need your support to bring this course here to the DC Metropolitan area!
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
Earlier this year, the Sikh Coalition launched the Sikh Presenter's Course. The Course is a three-day series of workshops designed to train Sikh community members to deliver Sikh Awareness Presentations. The workshops are led by trained professionals, well versed in teaching individuals effective presentation and public speaking skills.
The workshop focuses on
•Vital public speaking and presentation skills
•Relating key concepts in Sikhi
The Coalition spent an entire year creating the content, materials, and workshops that are used in the course. All course content and materials have been properly vetted and critiqued by Sikh professionals, non-Sikhs, and a public speaking consultant.
We're very inspired by the success of the two courses that have been held in New York and would like to bring it to the DC area. In order to do so, we need to raise approximately $5,000. This will cover costs for travel, facilitator fees, materials, and meals. Although all applicants will go through an interview process (as only 15 are selected), the Sikh Presenter's Course will be offered at no cost to the participants.
As supporters of the Sikh Coalition's work, we humbly request your assistance in meeting our fundraising goal. Just imagine having 15 trained presenters available in the DC Metro area ready to speak at schools, places of worship, and community organizations - it's well worth the investment!
Too many times we've had to quickly put these presentations together in response to a bias incident. Here's an opportunity for us to have trained presenters in the DC area, not just to respond to incidents, but proactively seek opportunities to educate people on who we are. In this way, we can prevent such incidents from occurring in the first place. I hope you are as excited as we are to bring this Course here, and help further establish both the Sikh community and the Sikh identity in the DC Metro area.
