October 8, 2010 (Sacramento, California) - Almost two years after a
Sikh job applicant won a legal battle against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the office of California Attorney General Jerry Brown continues to oppose the right of Sikhs to work as state correctional officers.
Jerry Brown holds this stance despite a recent vote by the California State Legislature to designate November 2010 as California Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month.
The case, which the Sikh job applicant won in a state administrative agency, is now being
litigated in state court and is being vigorously opposed by Jerry Brown's office.
