A leading Jewish-American civil rights organization, American Jewish Committee, has a $56 million budget, 26 offices, and 38 staff.
The leading African-American civil rights organization, NAACP, has a $35 million budget, thousands of branches, and 90 staff.
The Sikh Coalition, the highest-impact Sikh civil rights organization with the largest budget and staffing, has a paltry $940,000 budget, 3 offices, and 11 staff.
The Truth? We fight our foes with slingshots, while our colleagues fight their foes with tanks.
Yesterday, with your support, we reached $423,344 in our campaign to raise $500,000 by the end of the year. Thank you, donors!
But the truth is that in order to be effective, in order to protect the Sikh way of life we need the funding to be properly armed. We need more than slingshots. We need tanks. If you haven’t given, help arm us by rising to meet the $500,000 challenge. It’s time to level the playing field. The time to give is now:
To secure a bright future in this country – one free of discrimination, bullying and ignorance against Sikhs – we must invest in building institutions that compare to our Jewish-American and African-American counterparts.
We indeed are grateful to Waheguru for our many successes in the 2010. These victories show what is possible with resources. We must hire more dedicated and professional staff that will fight for us through litigation, advocacy, organizing and education.
But if we are going to protect our next generation, we simply need to do more.
Let's all resolve to do our part to raise the Sikh flag high: www.SikhDonate.org
The future is in our hands.
Guru Fateh and Chardi Kala!
