March 29, 2011 (Washington, DC) - As the Sikh Coalition grows, we want to confront new challenges. One area of emerging concern is discrimination against Sikhs in the American trucking industry.
Sikh truck drivers in the United States may be forced to provide hair samples for drug testing, or may be required to remove their turbans or shave their beards due to restrictive corporate image policies. In addition, Sikh truck drivers may be denied the right to wear a kirpan.
If you or any members of your local sangat have faced these challenges, please contact the Sikh Coalition today by sending an email to the following address:
legislative@sikhcoalition.org. For your convenience, a
Punjabi version of this message appears below. Please distribute this message to sangat members at your local Gurdwara, especially those who work in the trucking industry. As always, we encourage Sikhs to fearlessly maintain their articles of faith.
