Support the 8/29 Investigation Act

Please support the 8/29 Investigation Act, an independent bipartisan analysis of the failures of Greater New Orleans' federal flood protection system during Hurricane Katrina.  
 
The credibility of the Federal investigation, the Interagency Performance Evaluation Task Force (IPET) is in question for three major reasons.

1.  A disproportionate number of participants (80%) were employed by the Corps of Engineers or its sister agency, Army Research and Development, and were essentially tasked to investigate their own work.
 
2.  Two private independent levee investigation teams (National Science Foundation/U.C. Berkeley and Louisiana Dept. of Transportation/LSU) have reported findings that conflict with five (5) of seven (7) of the major levee failure mechanisms reported by IPET.

3.  A task force led by retired Congressman Sherwood Boehlert NY-R has recently faulted the organization responsible for peer reviewing the IPET with major shortcomings in their peer reviews in general including conflict of interest, lack of transparency and questionable funding sources.

These potentially flawed findings are being used to fortify the south Louisiana flood protection system which protects the lives and property of 1.5 million people.  Given the stakes, an irrefutable analysis is needed to find out how to move forward and rebuild metro New Orleans' flood protection.

Taxpayers deserve a full return on the investment dollars that Congress authorizes and the citizens of south Louisiana deserve the best protection possible.
